Teaching Portfolio – Style and Strategies

I. Teaching Style:

My teaching style encompasses a hybrid or blended approach utilizing research-based theories promoting learner differentiation and developmentally appropriate methods. Every grade and class provides opportunities supporting student-centered learning through hands-on project-based learning (PBL), inquiry, social cooperative groups, and technology integration. By utilizing a blended approach, I can ensure an inclusive learning environment and integrate endless enrichment activities based on my background in fine arts and digital communications. Furthermore, my goal remains to provide all students with rich educational experiences, apply real-world applications, and instill learning passion.

To create engagement and offer a variety of differentiated learning opportunities, I apply a variety of favorite strategies supporting constructivist, interactive, and experiential theories. Focusing on grade-level developmentally appropriate activities, a few of my favorite strategies include:

  • Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR)
  • Question Answer Response (QARs)
  • Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)
  • RACE Constructed Response Writing
  • Inquiry
  • Project-based Learning (PBL)
  • Hands-on
  • Gameplay
  • Role-Playing / Skits
  • Socratic Seminars
  • Debates – “Six Hats”
  • Cooperative Learning Groups / Jigsaw
  • Learning Centers
  • Read Alouds
  • SMART Goal Setting
  • Graphic Organizers
